Question:
I was wonder if anyones insurance has paid for VSG?

If so, do you mind telling what kind of insurance you have and how was it approved? ~~Thanks, Rebecca    — Rebecca B. (posted on May 9, 2008)

I do know it's starting to get approved more and more. You will probably get more responses if you ask this on the VSG forum, as I know there are some there who got approved. Good luck to you!!

I understand, but remember that I had a RNY, that until this process is a 10 years old and there is safe history for insurance companies they will not approve this proceedure. It is not that it is not safe, they just lack the data to that the liability of down the road events. Best of success to you.

It's tough, Rebecca. I'm in the middle of the appeal process with MA BC/BS PPO, and both my surgeon and my physician sent loads of documentation why this is better for me. I can't have the RNY because of calcium oxalate kidney stones, and we're reluctant to do the Lap-Band because I've recently been having allergic reactions to loads of stuff and we don't know if I'd be one of the few that would react to the stuff the Lap-Band's made of. They denied me despite that, so the docs have sent off pages and pages of documentation and reasons. That was 2 weeks ago, and we're awaiting their decision. From what I've researched, discussed with others, and learned from my WLS meetings and OH sites it seems you just have to document EVERYTHING you can and hope for the best. That being said, if mine is approved I'd only be the 3rd one in their practice that's been approved. But some do, so it's woth trying! Good Luck!

I have not had my consult so I don't have my approval yet, but I did call my insur co w/the exact insurance code to make sure they allow it. They do, so now I have to just wait and see if they approve ME! I got the code on OH from somebody's profile (sorry, I can't remember where or what it was), but you can also call your dr's office and ask them for the code they would submit for a VSG, then call the insur co and ask them about what all they require. HTH!
