Question:
taking anti depressants.

iam 6 months out and have lost 106lbs. I have been on anti depressants almost all my life. I cannot find one that does not make me sick to my stomach? Has anyone ever had any problems with taking meds. Please let me know, thanks!!    — achambers (posted on November 7, 2011)

Just wanted to contrats your on your awesome weight loss. Maybe you might be at a point where your body is telling you that you might not need the anti depressants. Great job. GL

please do NOT stop taking your antidepressants without your doctor's supervision. There are many antidepressants out there. You should work with your doctor to find the one right for you. All medications effect everyone differently, so, what works for someone else may or may not work for you. Anyway, congrats on the weightloss.

I have been on anti depressents as well for several years i take Effexor I was having problems with stomach upset etc but my surgeon order TECTA for my stomach and it has worked wonders. You may need your med adjusted I actually had mine increased with weight lose go figure but do not adjust or stop your meds without seeing your doc. I am and RN who has worked in mental health in the past and have witnessed people stopping meds cold turkey. In depression your mind chmeical recepators have wired differently. Take care

You have all just solved a medical mystery for my dr and I... I have been experiencing morning dry heaves each day for about 3 yrs... and my dr keeps sending me for all kinds of testing and to various specialists...I am pretty sure it is the Effexor I take, based on your responses. To the person who posted the question: congratulations on your amazing weight loss, and in 6 months! What did you have done? My doctor and specialist will not support weight loss surgery for me because I am on anxiety meds that cause weight gain and cannot risk malabsorption probs. :( I am trying the metabolic diet and have lost just over 20 lbs in the first 2 months, but it is soooo hard to stick with and I miss starches and salt so much. Good luck!

Try taking with food if you are taking in an empty stomach. If you are taking in the morning, try taking at bedtime. Drink plenty of fluids with them to wash them out of your pouch so they don't sit there. Hope this helps. I have to take many meds and have to do this myself. If any pill sits in my pouch, I get nausiated. I have a ongoing script for promethazine. I only take a half of one when needed. I also take Rantadine every morning as prescribed by my bariatric doc. Generic for Zantac. This helps greatly for nausia. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I take Celexa 20 mg and just began about 2 months ago. It made me sick and also made me crazy sleepy. I take it with a LIGHT meal and that helped with the sickness. With the sleepiness, my body just needed to adjust. ☺

Hi! What mg of Effexor are y'all taking? I have been taking Effexor (150 mg) for years and have never had dry heaves. I did have dry heaves during the day and my surgeon couldn't figure out why I was having them, but it finally went away.
