Hi Jen!! I am going to Ensenada, Mexico for my surgery on January 13,2006. Cost for surgery is roughly a little over 10K, compared to the $30K price tag of having it done inthe US. I recommend you check out Dr. Aguirre's section on thiswebsite and read everyone's profile that has gone to him, especially Latrisha Nickle's profile. There is nothing but glowing reviews for and about him and his staff!! Hope this helps you!!! Elizabeth I.

Jeni, Be certain to do your homework. Questions to ask include: Where did your surgeon go to medical school? Who did he/she train with for bariatrics and for what length of time? What are his/her numbers on mortality, complications (early and late), and infections? What are the details regarding mortaility, complication and infection? What is his/her preferred method of surgery? Open or Lap? What bariatric surgeries does he offer? What is his philosophy re weight loss, quality of life, expected amount of excess weight loss (typically a percentage)? How many out of country patients has he/she done? Does he/she have a Yahoo support group or any local support groups in your area? How long does the surgeon speculate your surgery will take? Are leak tests routinely done? During surgery? And after? Is anticoagulation therapy routinely used? That's really just the tip of the ice berg. Remember - this surgery is about the rest of your life. You want a surgeon who is committed to being your advocate for life. I went out of country for my surgery. I had the wonderful Dr. Aniceto Baltasar (Alcoy, Spain) for my surgeon. 3.5 years later he continues to be actively involved - I correspond with him regularly - sending him my labs and updates on my quality of life. He's one of the world's leading bariatric surgeons - but also just one of the kindest, most compassionate guys you'll ever meet. If you do your homework and have peace about ALL of the details - then go for it! If not - then keep looking! There are LOTS of excellent options! And of course, if I can answer any questions, please let me know! Blessings, dina
