My insurance is through Atena US Healthcare, and I honestly seemed to be calling them atleast a few times a week. It helped in my case, because my paper work was put on the wrong persons desk, sometings were missing from my paper work, it seemed like every time I called something else was wrong with the forms. I finally got a hold of the person who makes the decision, and she told me the next time she wants to hear from me, is after I had surgery, because she wants to know how I'm doing. It worked out for me being "the pest", maybe it will work for you. I believe it still took over 2 months for approval. Good Luck. Claudia

i have aetna us healthcare. i can tell you that calling them every day does not speed up the process. the people you actually talk to do not know anything. they are not the decision makers and they never talk to the decision makers. there is absolutely nothing you can do but wait. just make sure that your request/letter has been received and is in their system. keep in mind that every time you call, they log it in your account. while it's good to call once a week or so, i think calling every day will just irritate the decision makers when they go in and look at your account.

I got surgery through Aetna. I got approval in about three weeks and this was over the Christmas/New Year's holiday! I actually never dealt with the insurance company. The surgeon's office submitted the paperwork and dealt with them. Everything went very smoothly. I believe Aetna is one of the best as far as covering the surgery. Hang in there!

I have Aetna US Healthcare - Federal HMO and I got approval over the phone as well. I've heard that Aetna is one of the easiest for approval as long as you meet the medically necessary requirements which are pretty lenient as well. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I have AUSHC HMO and was approved pretty quick. One week after the initial request was made, I called them and they didn't see the request in the system so my Dr's Office got ahold of their contact there and found out that they wanted a diet history from me. I made a spreadsheet in Excel that listed all the diets I had been on with Start and End dates and total lbs. lost and lbs. regained. I also included the breaks in my diets when I was pregnant and gained weight then. Anyway, after I faxed this over to my Dr, they sent it to Aetna and I had my approval less than a week later. So here I sit waiting for my surgery on July 24th. Good luck!!

I have Aetna/US Haelathcare and was approved within 4 days. I never had to call the insurance compnay. I think it depends a great deal upon how experienced your surgeon's office is in submitting the request, your weight, diet history, co-morbidities, and plan specifics. Good Luck to you.
