Question:
Anyone have surgery by Dr Capella in Hackensack, NJ

I am seriously wanting the RNY, I weight 237 and am 5' 3" my BMI is 40 might be 1 up. Anyway I have been searchng this surgery for many many months and feel I have found the best in New Jersey, and he is Dr Capella. I have read so many stories and some very nice things about this man and have read he has one of the lowest mortaility rates in the country. Does anyone have any thing to say/ stories good or bad about this doctor. Any recently had surgery and can refresh his mortaility rate and how many surgeries he has done? I havent called his office to ask these question yet still waiting for my insurance coverage to start before I question the office    — kellisobo (posted on May 26, 2006)

A number of people in my support group had Dr. Capella and I have heard nothing but good things about him. I had Dr,. Garth Ballantyne who also does the RNY and Lap band at Hackensack University Hospital. He also has an excellent reputation and extremely low mortality rate and was in the top 10 surgeons in NY/NJ magazine. Dr. Capella has a son who does plastic/restoration surgery....many in our support group also had him.....and I have seen the excellent results of his work. Daughter went for consultation with him and I was very impressed with him. I hope to have some plastic work done in the next year.

Go Kelli! You've definitely selected the best surgeon around! Call the office and have them schedule you for one of the information sessions. You'll meet the doctor, and he will answer any questions you have. I had my surgery nearly a year ago, Aug 30th, and I've gone from 391 (5'4") at my first appointment to 366 just before surgery to 224 yesterday! And I can't do much exercise, I have arthritis and miserable feet. Dr Capella is an absolute sweetheart. He and his staff are just fantastic. They handled all the paperwork and insurance stuff, and are always there if you have questions or just need reassurance. I don't know what his mortality rate is, but I'm sure the office will tell you if you call. He has done literally thousands of surgeries, and hasn't lost a patient in a long while. That's saying a lot, considering that he will take on patients that other surgeons are afraid to. And Hackensack Hospital is totally spectacular. I had all my pre-op testing done there, too. Everyone you come into contact with is friendly and courteous. Email me if you want to know more! Good Luck, and I'm looking forward to hearing you've become a skinny minnie! --- Mary

Please GO!! He is an absolute gem! He is kind, caring and gentle. He will answer any question you may have no matter how silly it sounds to you to ask. I had mine done in April of 2003 and its the BEST thing I've ever done in my life and he was the best doctor I could have ever chosen. As far as the mortaility rate it's extremely low but he'll tell you at his informational meeting you have to go to before you even get an appointment with him. I suggest that you go to that while you are waiting for you insurance. The girls in the office are great as well. I think that as long as everything goes well the surgery is less than an hour long. I believe mine was only 45min. Good luck.

I had the pleasure of writing the cover story about both Dr.'s Capella - father and son. Both were delightful to interview. Very down to earth and excited at the progress their patients were making. I was very impressed with both of them! I wouldn't hesitate to use them myself.
