Question:
Has anyone in the Lower Bucks Co. area of PA had OPEN RNY ???

I'm 28 yrs old, I'm 5'3", and weigh 245. I've been overweight my whole life, trying tons of diets with little or no success. I recently had a consultation with the Barix Clinix in Langhorne, PA. As excited as I am at the possibility of having this surgery, I'm also petrified of the things that may go wrong or that I may have to live with after the fact. I'm hoping to find others in the area who have had this surgery and who may be looking to get together and share experiences both good and bad. Thanks, Kelly    — KELLY R. Kelly: I commend you for looking into bariatric surgery now while you are still young. It is normal to feel petrified. This surgery has come a long way over the past few years and it seems relatively safe. Why do you want to have an open procedure? LAP RNY is really a good option. Unless you have had some type of abdomoninal scar you should be a candidate for LAP. First of all check your doctor's credentials. Has he done a fellowship in bariatric and LAP surgery? How many procedures has he done? What is his success rate? Have you been to any support groups? Does your doctor offer a comprehensive program post-op? These are all important factors that will ease your anxiety. This website gives lots of info and there are a few books that are good too like WLS for Dummies. Good luck!

Hi Kelly. I can see your anxiety with surgery,, have you considered the laproscopic RN. I am 8 weeks post op & i feel wonderful this is the best choice i have made, I only regret i didnt make it before.......If you want i can go into more detail on my experience. I had no complications for surgery, just dehydration post op weeks 4-5-6 But i had a real bad sinus infection & i thought it was just side effects from surgery & was i wrong.....now on Ammoxicillian (THE LIQUID PINK STUFF) I feel GREAT.....please let me know if you want to chat any further.....Best of Luck Barbara

Hi. I ask the same question. Did you consider an LAP RNY? I had a LAP Band at the Barix center. I feel the center was great. They only do bariatric surgery, they were attentive and made sure I was healthly going in and coming out of surgery. The support there after surgery is also great. There is always apprehension, but I have seen people who had RNY there and they rave about the surgery, surgeons and the results. Come to the pre op or post op meetings there and talk to them in person. Look under the barix website for days and time. Hang in there. Phyllis

Kelly - I live in Levittown, PA, and had my surgery with Dr. David Greenbaum in Burlington, NJ. At the time I had my surgery (1.29.04), open RNY was my only option per my insurance co. Had I had the choice, I would have had laproscopic RNY. You can check out my surgeon on his website, which is sjbariatrics.com (I think). If you would like to speak with me further, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

Kelly I had the surgery at the barix clinic in January 2006. I had the open and I have no regrets. I have one 4.5 inch scar that is a thin line where my natural stomach line is. I didn't have any problems healing and I feel great. I didn't even have alot of pain....just sore at night. Stop taking pain medicine after the sixth day. God Bless!

Hi Kelly, I just had my surgery done at the Barix Clinix in Langhorne. My surgeon was Dr. Marymor. He is the greatest and the hospital staff was wonderful. It will be 3 months Nov.1st and I feel great. I also had open RNY. I'm not going to lie it's rough in the begining but well worth it!
