Our company switched to Cigna in September and I was going through the approval process with Carefirst BCBS. I filled out my transfer of care that Cigna required and was approved on my first time. They seem to be ok so far.

My insurance was through Cigna, and yeah, there were some hoops I had to jump through (6 months of a physician supervised weight loss program - and Weight Watchers and things like that didn't count; or 3 months of a weight loss program supervised by BOTH my PCP and a registered dietician), and the first time the surgeon sent in the paperwork, I was denied. But all they wanted to do was speak on a peer-to-peer basis with my PCP, and although she thought it was going to be a half an hour conversation, she said it only took her 5 minutes to state all the problems I'd had in the past, and all the times I'd tried to lose weight, and how she felt this was the last hope for me and she was positive that I was both physically and psychologically committed to living a healthy lifestyle, and they approved me that day! So, I'd guess that it was just that they wanted to be sure that they weren't throwing their money away on a surgery that was going to fail because I was not a good candidate. They just needed to be reassured, and although I hated the waiting, and the initial denial (I was devastated)... all in all, it ended up okay. And I had my surgery last March 2nd, and as of yesterday morning, I've lost 120 pounds, and am only 17 pounds from my surgeon's goal weight for me!

I have Cigna, and before submitting we made sure I had all my bases covered. They want a 6 month supervised diet, PCP clearance, Psych Eval., and an h.pylori blood test done. Once I submitted I was approved in 24 hours.
