Question:
How do I get approval for the sleeve from medicaid.

Emory MidTown has approval from Medicaid for the sleeve, but Atlanta Medical told me Medicaid has not approved it. I would get it done at Emory but the 600.00 co-pay is not in my budget. How do I ask medicaid about the approval myself?    — carolgirl52 (posted on December 16, 2011)

My situation is similar, but I went through my surgeon/hospitals procedures. I'm still waiting for actual Medicaid approval, but was told that "it's looking good" for approval for VSG. I am going through University Hospitals here in Cleveland and have not paid a dime for doctor's visit or the required meetings, as Medicaid has paid everything. Call the number on the back of your Medicaid card and ask them for their surgical procedure. What is the co-pay for? Here in Ohio, Medicaid requires several doctor's visits and procedures and pays for it all. Perhaps, Emory MidTown will take payment on the $600 co-pay and you can make $10 payments.

are you only want the sleeve? or you open to RNY or Band? You may need to see what will they cover. I know Medicare, that is what I have, only covered those 2 and I really wanted the sleeve. I am happy now with the RNY...and you may have to meet some other things like co-morbidities and diet....so on and so forth...and you may need to see what clinics they do cover...call them and ask
