Question:
Okay, I am going to buy insurance with Blue Cross\Blue Shield

I live in Oklahoma and I am a home maker so this means I don't work and I am not on my hubbys ins. so I have decided to buy a plan with Blue Cross\Blue Sheild so that I can try to get approved for WLS. My question is has anyone ever bought their own ins ? not with an employer and been approved with the self bought plan for WLS? This is my last option and if it doesn't work then I will have no choice but to self pay for WLS. So please if you may know of another self bought plan or carrier that may aprove this please e-mail me or drop a line here. [email protected]    — Dee S. (posted on December 8, 2001)

I do not have BCBS, but have heard that as of Jan,2002 that they will no longer cover WLS. Be sure to check thisout before buying!! Good luck.

Dee, I am sure you probably checked into this, but....isn't there a way you can pay to join on to your husbands insurance?? Or is it too expensive?. My work doesn't cover spouses, but they can pay to be added on. Try and check into insurance for your state before you buy. I have BCBS ppo and have surgery in January, but there has been talk about bcsb not covering it after jan 1. (Could just be certain areas. ) I am in California. even with ins, I have to pay $7800 up front. If you do go all cash, at least they tend to give you a discount. Best of luck to you.

i could not get approved with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. I'm not sure if it was because of a rider the employer had or what. I was approved with both United Healthcare & Cigna PPO within a week.
