my questions are: will I have open or lap, who will be the assisting DR, how long will I be in the hospital, will I have to go to ICU overnight, will I have an NG tube, if I have a large wound(from open procedure) will I need home health care afterwards, how long out of work, will the surgery help my GERD?????? These are just a few of my questions that I am taking with me this coming Monday, Mar 18th when I see my surgeon for my presurgical consult. Good Luck.

You might want to ask the doctor specific questions about his background, how many patients has he done? How many has he lost? What is his experience? You can also ask specific questions about the procedure itself? Also how is his office's aftercare program? Things like that. Hope this helps some.

My only suggestion is to write down the answers the surgeon gives you! I was sure I'd remember everything he said during my consultation, but I was really surprised to realize how much I forgot! Write it all down!
