Question:
Is it unrealistic to want to get down to atleast 150 lbs post-op when starting at 315

No it is not unrealistic. I have a friend that had the surgery about 18 months ago. She started at 315 and now weighs 135. The only surgery was a breast lift. Hope that helps you.

I don't know. I started at 319 and could only get to 160. Had hoped for 129.

Absolutely! I am 5'2" started at 290, now at 142 and still losing (though slowly and I work for every pound now!!!) It is funny I am prouder of the last 20 pounds than the first 120. I had a 2 month plateau at exactly 1 year out but I refocused and have lost another 9 pounds, so the lesson is it is all up to you!

Robin, How old are you? Age is really a factor, I believe. I started out at 346 and am now at 165 and doubt I'll lose any more. I was 55 when I had surgery and am 56 now. My surgeon wanted me to not lose below 190 - 200 but I did without effort. I stopped at about 185 for a very long time. Then I had my tummy tuck done (they took 5 pounds of skin) and I've lost another 15 since then. But I doubt I'll lose much more. I wanted to get to 150 but believe me, I am thrilled to be here.

Robin, I started at 5'7" and 312#. Surgery date was 5/16/02 and in 50 weeks I've lost 146#. I'm now down to 166 pounds and my goal was 170. I'm the exception to this surgery and my friends Patty and Nell agree that I'm a freak of nature when it comes to how easy I've lost the weight, etc. I'm going to my 15 year reunion (high school) in July and I may weigh almost what I graduated at in 1988!

I'm 5'6" at about 294 (still pre-op)...I'd like to get to 140. Will I? I don't see why not. If we follow our diet to the letter and don't misuse our tool we should be able to reach a weight that is great for us. My ideal weight is 142 and right now I can't even imagine seeing anything below 250. I'm going to play it by ear. If I feel wonderful at 175 then that's where I'll stay.

I'm 2 years out, 5'6 and started at 324 and am at 155 and still losing. I'm content at this weight. You can get to 150 if you incorporate exercise into your routine and stick to it. I haven't followed all of the rules to a "t" however, exercise is something I don't mess around with -- meaning I know I can't slip up and stop exercising. As soon as I stop my exercise routine, the scale goes up. It is a very real reminder of what can happen if I stop that. It did take the entire 18 months for me to get to my personal goal of 160 which is fine cause I got there. Then it surprised me to continue to lose. Good luck and God Bless!

Hi there, Robin! I started at 323 and although I haven't really set a goal weight for me ( I want the mentality that whatever I lose I am grateful for, which makes for less disappointments with plateaus) my PCP has put a goal for me, he wants to see me at 147. He feels it can be done, with a lot of hard work and motivation. I haven't been below 175 in over 10 years, so to see that will be a shocker. I think you can do it and it's definately is realistic. Vi open RNY 9/23/02 down 129 lbs.

I hope not! I'm 5'6" and I started at 311 when I had my lap RNY on 2-10-03. I'm down 70 pounds and I hope to reach a goal of between 150-160 pounds. If I can go lower, great, but I'm a little scared to dream that big! I exercise like a fiend, so hopefully, this will actually happen. Best of luck to you!!
