Question:
How long did it take to get approved by Aetna USHC HMO?

Please help! I am about to have a nervous breakdown! I have read on this site that that staff at Surgical Associates in NYC was careless with documentation, and I have experienced it first hand. Anyway, I am three weeks away from surgery and need that approval QUICKLY! Anyone have any encouraging words for me? Is there anyone I can beg or bribe at Aetna to rush this along? Thanks    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 28, 2000)

First find out WHEN your Doctors ofice sent the paperwork and then find out what address they sent it to and who they are talking to at your insurance company. Then you call Aetna and ask them where they are in the approval process and when you can expect a decision to be made. In my case the address that my Surgeon's ofc had for Aetna's pre-cert dept was not where the paperwork needed to be sent & Aetna had it for over a month before they told my Surgeon's ofc manager. Once it found it's way to the right desk it only took a couple of days. Basically it never hurts to ask Aetna what's going on:) Good Luck:) Sending Warm Healing Skinny thoughts to all:) ttfn

I was approved rather quickly by AETNA-USHC. I had my consultation on 7/6/00. My surgeon dictated a letter to Aetna on 7/10. His receptionist received approval on 7/13, my surgery is scheduled for 8/2. I hope this helps. [email protected].
