Question:
WHAT INS. IN CALIF. HAS THE SHORTEST MEDICAL DIET REQUIREMENT

I have Health Net from calif. And they require one year of a medically supervised diet. I cannot wait that long!! There's got to be other insurances that require a lesser time????Anyone out there that is getting ready to have their surgery have an insurance with no more than 6 months of medically supervised diets????My husband just got a new job and I am thinking of getting on his insurance but still keeping mine just incase his doesn't even this type of surgery !!! He's offered Blue Cross or Blue Shield and give no information on nothing. Atleast, I know my insurance will cover it, its that darn year of medically dr. diet thats sucks!!Does anyone have health net and used health net recently like in this year only???They used to be only wanting 6 months and changed after January 2001. Will they actually make me go do the whole 12 months or can I try again in the 7th or 8 th month??? Someone please tell me something.!!!Thanks    — Laura G. (posted on August 13, 2001)

I'm in Wisconsin but my insurance is in California. I have CCN. They cover surgical weight loss and have NO requirements. (Just that you are diagnosed as morbidly obese.) Once the letter actually reached them, they gave me my pre cert in ONE DAY! Hope this helps.

I have the Local 558 Insurance (husband works for Albertson's) it is called UFCW Prudent Buyer Plan- I always thought it was a BC-BS product but I cannot be sure? I neither needed a referral to see a surgeon nor were they interested in my diet history. Although I did provide both. In the end, it all came down to a Surgeon saying this was a medically nescessary treatment. When I called ahead to see if it was covered, the only answer I ever recieved was as long as the surgeon said "It is medically nescessary she have this", and my husband worked a certain amount of hours during the time I was operated on, then it would be covered.

I have United Health CAre, Select Plus, POS. I had NO diet requirement.
