Question:
am i to young to have a tummy tuck?

I really want a tummy tuck, i am 11 1/2 months post-op. i have lost about 120 lbs i am not to goal yet. I still need to lose 50lbs but im not sure that i can do that. I am 23 yrs old married and have not had children yet. Does a tummy tuck sound practicle for someone in my situation.    — lisa N. (posted on September 23, 2003)

If you're planning on having children, then I would wait. My PS told me it would be a waste of a good TT if you end up getting pregnant afterwards.

I know that many will disagree with me but I just had a tt 4 weeks ago at 24 years old. I'm not married and have not had any children, although I do plan on having them. I did not want to wait to have children (because who knows when that will be) to be happy and healthy! I know that if I have children my skin will stretch out and I could look into having my tt touched up. My PS told me that I shouldn't even be concerned, as the stretching from carrying a child does not compare to the excess skin I had before. I think this is a personal decision that only you can make. I wish you the best of luck!

I am only 21 and have had only one child thus far, although I plan on more. I was pretty skinny before getting pregnant and after gaining over 100 pounds during the pregnancy (which I highly doubt you'll do!) and having the baby, after swelling went down, etc...it really wasn't all that bad. A little "wrinkly" but not bad. Now, after being overweight awhile, I think I'm gonna really see some stretching. But I plan on having a tt anyway! I figure I can deal with a wrinkly tummy, but not hanging skin!

I would wait until after you are finished having children. I can tell you that my tummy is soooo tight after my abdominoplasty that the thought of it stretching out about 9 inches from me makes me hurt!! I sometimes eat a little too much and my stomach hurts because it is now so tight. Besides, if you get pregnant, your wasting all of the money you spent on the tt because you'll end up stretching it out and will need to have it done again.

I just turned 24, and will be having my surgery on November 4th. I am married with no children. I have come up with a five year plan for myself. (My mom thinks it is so funny for some reason!!!) Anyway...Here's the plan. I am going to have surgery in November 2003. Then, 18 months later, in May of 2005, become pregnant. Then, in February 2006, have the baby and get my tubes tied. Then, 6 months later in August 2006 have my tummy tuck (or however long you have to wait to have surgery after having a child.) Justin (my husband) and I are only planning on having one child anyway, so we are going to go ahead and have it while we are still young. (I am 4 years older than him). So, that's the plan. We'll see if it works out that way!! Anyway, Good Luck!!
