Question:
Has anyone received a denial from this company?

I am a teacher and I am currently at 384 lbs with diabetis and reflux and other conditions and have verbally heard from the insurance company that I will be denied. I talked to the insurance person at my district and they said that they did not know of any company dealing with BC/BS that ok the surgery and that if I went to appeal that the doctor would have to certified that I am in imminent danger of death to be listened to and even then there would probably be a denial. I really want this surgery and I need to get some advice. Can anyone help. Liz    — Liz R. (posted on August 18, 2001)

Hi Liz, if you want this surgery badly enough you may have to fight for it. Don't let anyone, not even a customer service rep at the ins co tell you it can't be done. BCBS is notorious for denying WLS, but it's not impossible to be approved. I was denied twice and WLS is a covered service under my plan if medically necessary. I was determined to have them approve the surgery and I fought tooth and nail to get them to say yes. So go for it, you'll never know unless you try. All the best.
