Has anyone had aetna ppo?

DID YOU HAVE TROUBLE GETTING APPROVED AND WHAT WERE THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPROVAL?    — Yvonne R. (posted on September 16, 2003)

I had Aetna HMO and had no problem... I'd think a PPO would be even faster w/ a yes... mine was like yes 3 days after NewStart finally submitted it... NewStart was the hold up for me...

Nope, I didnt have a problem either. Actually the surgeons office was surprised how smooth it was to get approval. Best of luck to you.

I too have Aetna PPO and it took exactly 2 months (yes, 8 weeks) to the date of submitting my insurance papers to be approved. Aetna required that I have a 5 year documented history of obesity (I had 4 years with current doctor), 2 years of recent documented attempts of medically supervised weight loss, and a complete diet history. My doctors office copied my entire file (twice, it was requested a 2nd time about 6 weeks into this thing) and sent it to Aetna. I wrote out every single diet I could think of that i've EVER tried. Lemonade diet, cabbage soup diet, and all the other silly desperate attempts ever tried. Finally, and I think this MAY have been the deciding factor, I wrote a long letter to Aetna myself. I wanted them to realize that there was a real live person attached to the "case number" they were dealing with. I told them about my experiences, my faith in God AND the procedure and that I just KNEW that this would be the 1st time that seeking help would actually result in a successful outcome.

As long as you meet the criteria, you will be approved. I was initially denied because my surgeons office did not submit the info necessary to verify that I met their requirements. When I received the denial, I copied all of the necessary information, sent it to Aetna myself and was approved very quickly.

I have Aetna PPO and was initially denied. I appealed and sent in a 25+ letter/info packet and was later approved. I know of many people who were denied and after they appealed they were then approved. It also depends on your employers package w/Aetna. Many people who work for Boeing get approved within 1 week or less. It took mine 2 months minimum (I don't work for Boeing). Best of luck!

Hi....I have Aetna PPO and was approved in a week! I met all their criteria, 100lbs overweight, BMI of 41.7 and included at least 5 years of dieting history....they couldn't really deny me as I met everything they asked for. Good luck!
