I have a Trustmark individual policy that paid for my surgery. But, Trustmark bought my policy from American States Insurance COmpany several years ago. I bought the policy 25 years ago and it is pretty liberal. It did not contain exclusions for weight loss. It did contain exclusions for "Cosmetic surgery" but the surgeon's office said this was not cosmetic. I can tell you that Trustmark sent back a memo to my clinic and asked for the doctor's notes from the initial exam. When he sent them back, they approved the surgery after about 3 weeks. It took them 3 months to actually pay the hospital. The bill was rather large and when I called to see what the holdup was, they informed me, politely, that because of the size of the bill it had passed form one supervisor to the next until it finally had gone to the top for approval. At the "top", they butchered several thousand dollars off the amount, attritubed that to the "Beechstreet savings plan" and noted to the hospital that the patient could not be billed for the difference. And that was that.

Trustmark is a large corporation holding several companies within its' name. I have Coresource insurance, a self-funded PPO plan for Coresource employees. Coresource as a whole is a 3rd party administrator with clear and specific guidelines on what necessitates medical necessity. Can you tell by now I am a claim examiner? (smiles) Coresource approved my gastric bypass in less than 4 weeks with nary a question. It's my understanding the Trustmark companies all use "Trilogy" as their med. nec. guide. I'd be happy to offer you more specific information if you contact me personally. Good luck to you on your surgery!!! Mine is 8 days away! Huggs, Dana
