I am not sure what state you are from. But I am from the State of Michigan and we have what you call the HMO Task Force, which sounds like your insurance commissioner. My appeal process went all the way to the Task Force level. It was a three hour appeal hearing. Like a court room setting. There were three of us there who had the same insurance company and wanted the same surgery. We had Walter Lindstrom, an attorney there with us too. Then our insurance company was there with their lawyer and another representative. The Task Force seemed be attentive. After our attorney spoke, we each had a chance to talk to the Task Force. It was very scarey but I decided it was my last chance and I wanted to convince them how this surgery would change my life. We had all of our pill bottles in front of us and explained what each one did for us. Another woman brought her sleep apnea machine for them to see. Then our insurance company spoke. The came with their lawyer and a representative. Anyway, i guess we convinced them because they unamominously (sp?) voted to compell our insurance company to pay for the surgery for all three of us. They told our insurance company that this should have never gone this far but should have been approved from the start. It is worth the fight. If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me at [email protected] I will help anyway I can. Good Luck.
