Question:
Has anyone been able to have a gastric bypass and tummy tuck?

I would like to know if anyone with Kaiser No. California who was approved for weight loss surgery have been successful at getting a tummy tuck at the time of their wls. If so, were you able to get Kaiser to pay, or did you have to come out of the pocket. Please explain your experience, any info. will help me out.    — [Anonymous] (posted on August 26, 2001)

Maybe it's just me - but I'm curious as to why you would want a tummy tuck BEFORE you lost the weight? Once you are goal it seems that would be when all the excess skin would be the worst. If you got one during, wouldn't you need another one later?

WHEN I WENT IN FOR MY WLS , THE DR. IMFORMED ME THAT YOU SHOULD LOSE AS MUCH OF THE WEIGHT AS POSSIBLE BEFORE PURSUING A TUMMY TUCK . THEREFORE YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HAVING TO REPEAT THE SURGERY AGAIN WHEN YOU HAVE LOST ALL YOU ARE GOING TO LOSE.I HAVE DEVELOPED A LARGE ABDOMINAL HERNIA AND WILL BE GOING IN FOR A HERNIA REPAIR AND ABDOMINOPLASTY,WHICH IS MUCH LIKLIER TO BE APPROVED TOGETHER THEN IF YOU WERE GOING FOR APPROVAL OF JUST THE TUMMY TUCK . IF IT WERE ME I WOULD NOT WANT TO GET THE TUMMY TUCK WITH THE SURGERY ITSELF . I WOULD WAIT TILL I MET MY DESIRED WEIGHT....TOM

I had my WLS and tummy tuck at the same time. I only wanted one recovery and I haven't regretted it yet. I talked with several of my surgeons patients and they said that their tummy tuck still looked good after weight loss.
