Question:
Did anyone elses Ins. state that it did not cover Morbid Obesity surgically?

My insurance states that it does cover Morbid Obesity, but not surgically. Although, they did say to get all of the paperwork together and send it in for pre-determination. I am very confused, do you think that I stand a chance in being covered? Has anyone elses insurance ever stated this?    — Cindy T. (posted on February 1, 2003)

Lots of insurance companies have clauses in their contracts that specificly omit Weight Loss Surgery. Some have them, some don't. There are variables, some if you have morbidities (SP???), some say you need to take major tests. Call them back & get clarification. You may need to bug them, but don't quit till you totally understand what your options are within that contract. Good Luck!

The other poster was correct, you need to call your insurance company and have explain in more detail. I think, and it is only a guess that they are going to require a medically supervised weight loss program, I would ask them that. It sounds like they might go for WLS, but they want to make sure you have been on a weight loss program or programs and have failed. Hope this helps
