Question:
Has anyone applied for life insurace after surgery?

When I purchased life insurance I was rated because of my "Build". I was wondering if anyone has had experience with purchasing life insurance after surgery? Did you get rated again because of altering your body or did your rates fall into the "normal" catagory because of reduced weight? Thank you.    — blank first name B. (posted on November 15, 2001)

Yes. I was denied life insurance by two companies when I was MO. After losing 100lbs., I was insured by one...with no problems at all...and technically I'm still "overweight".

I tried to purchase life insurance about 9 mos post op, and was denied. They said I had to wait at least one year after such major surgery. Didn't make sense to me. Haven't reapplied now that I'm past that, as I just had a tummy tuck (more surgery).

I am in the process of applying. One thing I have found is that if you go through a "big name" company it is more expensive and they will not approve you until a year after the surgery. I went through a broker and found a less high-profile company that is in the process of approving me for a lot less with no hassles.
