Question:
is the band a lot cheaper?

after reading some of the questions, it seems that the band may be less expensive. is this true? also, can the band be done lap even if your bmi is too high to do the lap rny with some surgeons? my surgeon at wish center won't do lap rny with bmi over 50. thanks in advance for any answers! darci    — darci T. It depends on where you get it done. In my area, the cost ranges from $13,000 to $30,000. I traveled to Mexico because of the cost, and because the doctors are more experienced. My doctor teaches many of the US doctors. I paid $10,000 for everything. But you can get it as low as $7,000 +/-. And that is for an excellent experienced surgeon.<p> My BMI was 54 when I had my lapband. My surgeon said that I was not on the high end. It depends on the skill of your surgeon. The band is several thousand dollars cheaper. Malcolm at www.lapbandtransformation.com might be able to answer some of your other questions. There's also a group called ExtraordinaryBandsters on Yahoo, which is for banded people with a BMI of over 50 and I bet you could get some answers from the SmartBandsters group on Yahoo. Good luck to you!

I also traveled to Mexico to have my lap band surgery done. My cost was $6500. My BMI was 57 and my surgeon never blinked about doing the surgery. I am not sure if the requirements are different here in the states. Neither company that I had insurance with would cover the surgery so I didn't bother checking into the requirements here. Good luck in your journey. Sandy 336/283/g160 april 1, 2003
