Question:
My insurance doesn't pre approve WLS surgery any longer as long as you meet their

requirements.Your BMI has to be over 40,mine is 41.6,you have to be 100 pounds overweight,i'm 116 and be between the ages od 18 and 62.A lady never tells her age but I do meet this requirement also.My surgeon wont do surgery unless he has pre approval from my insurance co which they don't do any longer.Has anyone else had this problem?SinceI started this journey I seem to be going in circles or hurry up and wait!I finally got a tentative date of August 11th,all I had to do is agree to self pay the surgeon if the insurance wont pay.Right now I'd agree to anything to get this done,I'll pre pay him if I have to,I've waited to long and come to far let this stand in my way.    — Gussie (posted on July 21, 2003)

I went through the same thing I have BCBS of MI PPO. My Dr. said that I would be self pay. I paid 15,000.00 up front. They (Dr. and Hospital) then send the paperwork to Ins after WLS. As a matter of fact I just found out that my Ins covered all but 350.00 of it!! Good Luck.
