Question:
Anyone ever abel to Get insurance to pay for a surgeon/hospial out of plan?

I live and work in Central Illinois. I am a nurse at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. I have OSF Healthplans HMO. I have done my research and do not really trust or want to have my surgery done at OSF. However, my insurance says that I can only have it done there. My room mate is having it in Moline, IL at Trinity Bariatric Center. I want to have it here also. The surgeon in Moline says I need to appeal to my insurance company because they can not limit me to only OSF. I am not sure what to do. I fear for my life by having it at OSF but am not willing to just not have the surgery. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.    — Michelle F. (posted on March 7, 2004)

Check your plan to see if you have out of network coverage. Granted, you will pay more out of pocket, but it may be worth it to you. The only other recourse you might have is to ask to go out of network. You will have to write a very strong letter explaining why you want/need to go out of network, and you MUST have some facts to back you up. Good luck!
