Question:
What can I do to get a headstart on my paperwork?

I have been on this web site now for about three hours and I am very excited about consulting my doctor on WLS. I am a 27 year old single mother of a three year old and I refuse to waste another day not being able to play with him due to weight. I have Cigna insurance and was wondering if anyone can help me get a headstart on the paperwork the insurance company will require. I want to have all of mu ducks in a row when I go in there. Thank You    — Amber G. (posted on March 26, 2001)

I am also a single mother of a four year old. I had a VBG in 1997 and now have a staple line leak and am trying to get a revision to RNY. All insurances and programs are different but here are some things you could write out ahead of time. You should try to write out your diet history, including whether they were medically supervised or not, time on program, weight lost, and possibly weight regained. I would also type out my comorbidities and family medical history. If you know ahead what types of tests your surgeon requires or the insurance requires, try to get them done. These might include an upper gi, bloodwork, sleep study, psych visit, etc. I hope this helps!
