Question:
Pacificare-secure horizons--smoker/non-smoker exclusion?

I am waiting for approval for RNY and was told that Pacificare will not approve a smoker, but I stopped smoking over a year ago. ANY INPUT would be greatly appreciated!!    — Marion B. (posted on June 6, 2000)

Congratulations to you for quitting smoking. I am currently a smoker and I know it will be difficult to quit for the surgery. I can do it though. Anyway, I don't have much experience in insurance department, but I feel that if you can have your doctor write a note saying you had quit over a year ago, maybe that would help. Also, I know when a co-worker of mine was getting life insurance, they tested her with something sortof like a breathalizer to make sure she was not a smoker. Maybe you can suggest that to the insurance company as proof if they don't believe you. Good luck.
