Question:
Does Kentucky Medicare ever cover WLS

When i call to see what my Medicare covers they don't even want to talk about it.    — Sheila W. (posted on May 12, 2003)

First off, don't even try to talk to medicare about it. They DO cover it. My best friend had her surgery in November with Ky Medicare as her only insurance. The docs accepted medicare assignment which means she only had to pay her co-pay which was 800. for the hospital and 400. for the surgeon. And they billed for it. No up front money. She had a lot of co-morbs and they also don't preapprove. If you can prove co-morbs and your surgeon will see to this. they will pay after the fact. I also have Ky Medicare as my secondary and they picked up what my United Health did not cover. I had surgery in Feb. The key here is to find a surgeon that takes assignment. If he doesn't you will end up paying 20%.

yes, the key is finding a surgeon who will take it on assignment as the previous poster said. i had ky medicaid/passport and they paid 100%, but my doc knew upfront b/c he had to submit approval. best of luck to ya. also, dont talk to medicare cause of course they want u to go away, so they wont tell u anything.---amanda mercer, 9.5 months post-op, down 95 lbs and 47 1/4 inches, dr jeffrey allen-louisville ky--nortons hospital
