Question:
Do I give up or try again with another doctor?

For three months I have been waiting for my doctors letters to turn into the surgeon. I have had three blood clots and after the last one I had a filter put in. Other then controled blood pressure and severe arthristis with nine degenerative discs in my back and no surgery available, I am in good health. I took all my papers to the surgeon two days ago. They did not bother to call me, they called my doctor and said no go. I am in tears. Has anyone else been denied because of blood clots or is this doctor being extra careful. They could have least called me themselves and explained why no surgery.Should I give up or try another place. I was denied at Yypsilanti just because I was 65. I am considered too old. Maybe it is too dangerous for me. — Carol H. (posted on December 18, 2002)

Call my surgeon, he does folks up to around 70 and specializes in high risk patients. Does them LAP too. You can view his support group on line here
http://www.upmc.edu/obesitysurgery/monthlySupportGroup.htm
Dr Schauer is the best and just a few days ago spoke with a lady in her 60s. She had surgery a few mnths ago and is doing great. Incidently he has many patients from many states away and thats why he started the on line group meetings.
