Has anyone been approved through Cigna PPO?

I was approved by Cigna PPO in California, it was over 2 years ago though. I didn't have any problems. I think it depends more on what kind of coverage your company has. Some companies make it an exempt surgery others will only pay if it's a medical neccessity. I hear now that they require 6 mo of medically supervised diet info as well. Don't get discouraged. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I lost 150# and I feel great. Good luck in your journey. Jan

I Have Cigna PPO in Baltimore,Maryland and Have not had any problems dealing with them. My initial consult was the day after Thanksgiving 2002. I went to the Bariatric Treatment Center in Langhorne,PA. had a consultation with my doctor and wham three weeks later approval for surgery. Of course at the time I weighed in a at whopping 385lbs.I guess that was one of the reasons I was approved so quickly. Other than my weight problem I really did not have any other medical conditions. Oh by the weigh my stats are as follows 5'7" and 36 yrs. old. Hope that this helps you. Open RNY 03/03/03 currently weighing in at 273lbs.

I was approved by Cigna PPO. My surgery was open RNY on 9/2/03. It took alittle over three months and I was initially denied. They required supervised 6 month diet with monthly weigh in (with-in past 12 months), psych consult, letter from PCP and dietician consult. Lots of phone calls, faxes and dead ends where either things weren't received or they went to wrong place. Everyone was very nice to deal with however. It helped me a great deal to document all of my encouters with names and direct phone numbers where possible. Good Luck!

CIGNA PPO not only approved my lap RNY, but later approved my panniculectomy and brachioplasty. I am from NC, and the case manager stated that even though CIGNA is a national provider, policies differ from employer to employer, and state to state. Best wishes!
