Question:
How often should I check on approval request?

I had my consult with the surgeon March 20th 2001, now we wait for the insurance.....I did call my pcp office to see how it was handled and also my insurance. It's my pcp group who actually approve it and the person I spoke to said they were having their meeting the next day, if I could get the surgeon's office to fax the request by the next morning I would know the answer by the afternoon.... So I call the surgeon's office and tell them the info and they said of course they knew where to send the request and of course they could not possibly have it ready by then. So I was kinda bummed, I was so excited to think I might have an answer by today 21st March, but I guess I have to wait for them to do it in their time, the next meeting I think is 2 weeks :( I've heard so many horror stories of paperwork being lost etc I'm just wondering if I should sit and wait for them to do it all or if there are some steps I should do to insure the process goes according to plan (my plan that is). Any tips, advice on calling, when to call, or leave it alone?? Mandy    — Mandy M. (posted on March 21, 2001)

If you want to stay on their good side, call no more than once a week and be nice. Tell them you are phoning to check on the status of your surgery request. If you take the advice of those who may tell you to call everyday until you get an answer, you may have to wait longer. That's human nature. Best wishes.
