Question:
What do I do if I'm approved from Humana for this surgery and my husband's job

changes to another insurance carrier? I got approved from Humana on Dec.4th but I can't celebrate that victory because my DH job might switch carriers. Can I carry my approval for WLS over to my new ins. carrier if they switch. The switch would become effective Jan.1,2002 and I know I won't be having surgery until atleast Feb.2002. Can you keep your DH insurance with a Cobra plan? I know it's expensive, but at least you won't have to start over with a new insurance company. I hope everything works out:)

As far as I know if you switch insurance companies all the information will have to be resubmitted to the new insurance company. You will not be having the surgery till February so I believe it becomes null and void ince you switch. I would really ask Debbi or Becky at your doctors office. They are very good with questions like this. I have spoken to them several times and they always knew the answer to my questions. Unfortunately I chose a different doctor though. Good Luck I know the process can seem really long and stressful. Just make sure that your husbands new insurance company doesn't have an exclusion clause for this surgury.

Two people at my company have faced this issue at my company, one chose to fight it and won...the approval carried over into the next year (I think it had to be within a certain time frame). It fell into the plan where it was an existing condition that was being treated at the time of the change. The other person chose to resubmit for approval. She still had her surgery.
