Has anyone had success with Voc Rehab in Kentucky?

Voc Rehab told me they would only pay $2000 toward WLS. Has anyone else had any luck with them paying for this surgery?    — Brenda M. (posted on June 7, 2002)

I live in Florida and I am having WLS payed for in full by Vocational Rehabilitation. I am assuming your Voc. Rehab. is funded the same way in Kentucky as it is in Florida. In florida, 80% of the funding comes from the Federal Government. I was lucky. My counselor was pro on the idea of this surgery. I would research your own state's Voc. Rehab policy and fight for 100% participation and payment. They are government employees and regardless of how they act, they are there to assist you and not hold you back. The money is NOT coming out of their personal pockets. We all paid into this system. The purpose of Voc. Rehab is to get you back to work. If WLS is going to help you do that, then let them wake up and smell the coffee. They may be practicing discrimination against you because of your weight. More and more states are recognising this and your Voc. Rehab. counselor may have to be reeducated. Write me if you want to talk more. [email protected]
