Question:
Does anyone know of a doctor in the Houston area that does the DS?

Would appreciate any advise and information from others that have had the DS. Long term especially. Would also like to hear about RNY (open or lap)    — Kathryn B. (posted on August 5, 2002)

Kathryn,,,I had the lap RNY done 4-30-02 by Dr.V Wongsa on Champions Forest Dr.,,,He works out of Cy-Fair hospital, and is excellent,,He did my surg in 59 minutes,,He does it with 6 punctures into the stomach,,,I was in the hosp for 2 days and was back to work in 2 weeks feeling a little tired , but ready to go back,,He is very popular and has done about 500 cases, with very few post op complications,,the office and the doctor will discuss all of that with you,,,he has three people working for him that have had the surgery by him. His office will take care of filing, and keeping up with your insurance. I started at 345lbs, and now 3months post op am at 255lbs,,,Good luck,,,Susie

I had lap RNY on 5/10/2001 with Dr. Ferrari at NeWeigh. He was new to lap when I had it but I had no complications whatsoever. He now has hundreds of lap RNY's under his belt. The office handles all the insurance stuff (I never once contacted my insurance company--NeWeigh told me I was approved two weeks after I applied) and they have a good aftercare program and support groups that meet weekly. The only downside for me was the location: by the Astrodome. If you want any more info, feel free to email me or take a look at my profile. I had a revision from VBG to RNY with Dr. Ferrari (thru Neweigh). I really like Dr. Ferrari and totally recommend him. He also did the VBG in the first place. I checked the DS site (www.duodenalswitch.com) and they do not have any DS surgeons listed for Texas at all.

I had surgery with Dr Wongsa on March 20, 2002 and started out at 271 and I am now down to 185. I couldn't be happier. I have some friends that went through a doctor in Pasadena and they are not as happy with their outcome. I highly recommend Dr Wongsa and his procedure. My surgery lasted less that 50 minutes and I feel great.
