Question:
Where in the US the lap band surgery is performed?

I live in Maine and am interested in having the lap band procedure mostly because it is reversible. I am terrified that if I go with permanent something awful is going to happen to cause irreversible damage. I have been doing some research and found that almost everyone in maine has had rny surgery. Anyone know where I can have the lap band installed??    — Rachel G. (posted on August 25, 2002)

My surgeon in pittsburgeh does the band. I almost got it and had the same concerns as you. Glad I picked the RNY, primarily because I would of gravitated to eating milkshakes and other easy to eat high calorie liquidy food. Bandsters need a better resolve than me.....

The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH does lap banding. You can locate them online and order an application. LIke Bob, I knew I wasn't strong enough in my resolve to do Lap Banding, so I've chosen an RNY. Either way you go, goo luck and keep reading this site! You'll gain SO much knowledge here.

Dr Mitchel Roslin in NYC @ Lenox Hill does the surgery. He is world renown and one for the first to do it. You can find him on this site under NYC dotors. Also, his website is www.nomoreobesity.com. P.S. He apparently did Al Roker's Lap Band.

There is a Dr.Valin in Connecticut, New Haven I believe, that does the lap band procedure. He was featured on a TV news program as being one of the first in CT to do the procedure.

The RNY is also reversible, it's a bit more involved, but it is reversible. I don't know anyone who wants or wanted it reversed anyway. You should do your homework on both procedures, the VBG has less success rate *as I'm told* then the RNY and if you have GERD, or reflux the VBG doesn't cure it, but the RNY was. I orriginally was going to have the banding and am SOOOO glad I had the RNY. Good Luck!

Dr. Thomas Levin in Covington, Louisiana does it. Covington is about 40 minutes from New Orleans. He is a fabulous doctor. So come on down for Mardi Gras and go home with a new life. :)
