Question:
Should I call My insurance?

I have a copy of the letter that my surgen has sent to the insurance co. So I know they have done their job... But should I bug the insurance co? They have always been real good about covering things in a timely mannor. They covered my daughter's birthmark removal surgery very quickly and I only had to call them because they sent a letter telling me that they would not cover the surgen because he was out of network. So I had to go with another, but thats no biggy.. My WLS is in my network, so I shouldnt have a problem with that, and I also meet the standards. So Should I bug them or wait?    — Ruth S. Hi Ruth. If your insurance comapny has been decent in the past then I wouldn't "bug" them. What I did was after the surgeon's office sent in the paperwork, I waited a week (plenty of time for them to receive it)THEN I called them. I asked if they received the surgeon's paperwork and asked if they had all the info they needed. Then I asked how long it would take for them to review it and make a decision. I have BCBS and they have 10 days to make a decision. Course on the 8th day they requested a psych eval before they would approve it.

YESSSSSS...Bug the living daylites out of them. That is what I did and got approval in 2 days....Call the prior authorization depart. those are the people that you need to speak to. Make sure that they are not waiting for any other documentation and that nothing is just pending. A call every 2 hours should do the trick!!!!Good luck :)

I know a lot of people call. To be honest, if I worked for an ins. co and somebody called me all the time their file might get put to the bottom. I would give them at least a week or two, the average time for approvals, before starting to call. Good luck, (ps.. I never called and was approved in a week)
