Question:
Has anyone here had their insurance for a few days when they went for 1st consult?

I have been working with my employer to get insurance that will cover the surgery. I finally got insurance on the 17th of May. It takes 30 days before I can use it, however, I did schedule an appointment with BTC for the 20th of June..3 days after my insurance will become active. I made sure that my insurance does not have a pre-existing clause or waiting period. It supposed to be a "cadillac insurance"..or atleast that's how the agent described it. But I can't help but worry that when I go for the consult, I will get denied because I haven't had the insurance for long. Lord knows I've struggled to get insurance and have gone through hell and back trying to get it. Finally got it and don't want to mess it up! Has anyone here been in this situation? Should I go ahead and go for the consult on the 20th or should I wait? I hate waiting any longer...EVERYDAY IS LIKE A YEAR FOR ME!! Help!    — Samar M. (posted on May 21, 2002)

If there's no pre-existing condition exclusion, you can have services performed on your effective date with no problems.

My ins way effective on Jan. 1, 2002. I went to my PCP about 10 days after, just to get the ball rolling. I was denied on the first letter, but it was only because the surgeon I requested didn't use the latest tools for the surgery. My ins. then said that they would approve it for another surgeon. They did. All together it took 5 months. So I don't think it matters. Good Luck.

OOH!! OOH!!!... that sounds like me. My company switched insurance on the first of the year to supposedly one of the tougher insurance companies to work with...I started my journey just a few days later and here I am... Good luck to you =)

I was as worried as you are. I started work in Feb 2002 and insurance became effective April 1, 2002 (glad that wasn't an omen!) I scheduled my appointment with my PCP for 4/9 and my surgical consult for 4/22. My insurance approved me over the phone on 5/20 and my surgery was scheduled the next day for 7/18. I worried myself sick over this until I actually heard I was approved, so I know what you're going through. Good luck!
