Question:
Premera Blue Cross says they have an exclusion. How do we go about it to be accepted

They are my primary, I think; my husband's work insurance. My secondary is Medicare, Parts A and B. If Premera won't do it, does Medicare ever accept wls and under what circumstances and how do I go about getting it covered?    — catly (posted on October 20, 2003)

My primary was also Premera and secondary Medicare. Blue Cross stands fast with their exclusion. With Medicare "Gastric bypass surgery for extreme obesity is covered under the program if (1) it is medically appropriate for the individual to have such surgery; and (2) the surgery is to correct an illness which is caused by the obesity or was aggravated by the obesity." That is a direct quote from the Medicare website. So I would talk to a Dr. who excepts Medicare. If you are in Washington state I would highly reccommend Dr. D. Lauter! He did mine!
