Question:
Should I see my pcp first or got on to the surgeon.........

I am from Indiana and have Mplan as my insurance. Has anyone been approved and if you have how did you go about it? I don't think my pcp will refer me so should I go on to the surgeon and let them handle it? I am 25yrs., 350lbs, 5'5", and am really considering surgery. Thanks!!!    — CHRIS765 (posted on February 19, 2000)

You might call your surgeon for an appointment and ask do need a referral. You might not need one for the surgeon but I'll bet you will for your insurance. If you don't think your PCP will give you one, now would be a good time to start looking for a new PCP. Good luck.

Hi Christina: I guess it depends on whether you need a referral for your insurance. Mine doesn't require them, so I just made appointments with the surgeons and went. Good luck with your decision. Jaye Carl, open proximal RNY 7-29-99, 94 pounds gone forever!
