Question:
Why would my insurance company call my PCP........

requesting medical records"AGAIN" but this time for ONLY the times I have seen my PCP for Obesity reasons? I have sent them ALL my medical records before with all weights and co-morbities highlighted. Also why would they be requesting these now? I do not have my surgery consult until August 9,2001. Should I be worried? Or is this a "Normal" step for them to already be taking?    — Lynda T. (posted on July 19, 2001)

Hi Lynda, I had a similar thing happen. My PCP had written a LOMN which was submitted to the ins co along with medical records which included MSD attempts, weight fluctuations and health history. But they contacted him because they wanted a separate letter summarizing MSD attempts only, since the other info wasn't relevant to the review of the approval request. Another viewpoint is that pre-existing clause may apply to your contract, and they want to confirm whether you've been treated by a physician for obesity related conditions within the six month period that the pre-ex applies. Any condition that you've been treated for within that six month period will not be covered by the ins co for the next 12 months from the effective date of the contract usually.
