Question:
eating disorder exclusion

My insurance company has an exclusion that states they do not cover the "treatment of eating disorders with medications or gastric bypass surgery". Do you think I can appeal on the grounds that I do not have an eating disorder and therefore that exclusion does not apply to me. Has anyone gotten around that specific exclusion before? Thank you for any help you can direct me to!    — Debbie Y. (posted on February 4, 2002)

Sounds like the operative word in that sentence is "OR". Good luck.

You're seeking treatment for obesity and not an eating disorder so you should be able to find a way around it. Search this site for people on here with your insurance who have had the surgery and find out how they got around the exclusion.
