Question:
Which one to choose?

The company I work for is having its open enrollment for health insurance until 11/30/00. I need some advice on which one might be the best choice: Cigna HMO or Aetna HMO? I'm sorry if I shouldn't have asked this here but didn't know what else to do. Please help!    — picklesnan (posted on November 9, 2000)

I have Aetna HMO, was approved for lap RNY within 2 weeks of Dr. sending in paperwork, they paid all but $100 deductible, even though ended up going to a non-provider hospital. I'd say go for Aetna

I have Aetna USHC HMO. I was approved within 24 hours and I didn't pay a dime. My BMI was 43 and I had no comorbidities. I say Aetna!

I would suggest you look at the insurers on this sight and see what your peers are saying here concerning these two insurance co. I've heard some really good things about Aetna and also I would call to the benefits office at my job and find out what the exclusions are going to be. They should not have a problem with this question being that this is how you determine whether to buy a certain policy or not.

Sorry! I also meant to tell you being that you will be stuck with whatever co. you choose for awhile I would ask who ever is in charge in the benefits office to call the agent they are dealing with if they don't know the answer and if they do know the answer, then you should have them show it to you in writing. Then before choosing post on this sight exactly what it says in the book and I am sure someone here will be able to help clearify what it is saying. They can be very cunning in my opinion read on my profile page what they did to me as this will hip you to their tactics.

I would recommend you go with Aetna HMO. Aetna has an across the board policy weather it is and HMO, PPO, or POS stating that they cover wls for morbid obesity as long as you have a bmi of 35+co-morbities or 40 with out and a good diet history. I have Aetna myself and going through the approval process. Best of luck on your journey.
