Question:
My employer wants to know how much WLS costs.....

And I have been unable to find that information anywhere. Can someone tell me where to find it or Can I get several people to answer back with what type of procedure they have had, who the doctor was (if you don't want to put that it's okay) and how much there total bill was with hospital, surgeon, and anesthia? I am looking at either RNY distal or Deuodenal Switch. Thank you    — [Anonymous] (posted on July 12, 2001)

My total bill for doctor fees, hospital, lab work, anesthesiologist is running about $25,000. The hospital alone charged $17,000. Hope this helps and good luck.

Each surgeon charges different amounts and in different ways but this is how it was explained to me. WSL surgeon: $4700.00, assistant surgeon:$940.00, ANaesthesiologist: $1500. Operating room rent: $18.00 per minute, room and board is a minimum of $600 per day for a regular room. Tellemetry rooms cost more and you may need that for part of your stay. It all depends on what your surgeon charges, what the room rate is for the hospital, what the hospital charges for the operating room and how long your operation takes. I was recently in the hospital for 5 days for something totally unrelated to the surgery and room and board for my telemetry bed was over $3000.00 per day.

I had an open BPD/DS on 4/11 at Mt. Sinai in NY. I was in for 5 days, went home the am of the 6th day. With telemetry and a private room(billed for semi private as non available)it cost $4,464.00. My ins. paid $446.00. The bill from the surgeon was $24,5000(covered everything-including anesthesia). They have a contract with ins. and they paid $2043.00. I wasn't responsible for anything other than my $15.00 co-pay for my initial consult. Pre-op, I paid $200 for the psychaitrist and $200 for the nutritionist and that's it.
