Question:
An RN at my insurance company just called - got any ideas what they are going to ask

I called and told them not to purchase my cpap machine because it didn't work. Said my doctor is going to prescribe a bipap. That was last week. I also sent in a packet of info. to my employer about WLS. Now, I get a message on my machine from an RN at United Healthcare of Ohio saying that she wants to talk to me about assessing my needs. I think it's pretty self explanitory what I need but obviously they don't agree, or are they changing thier minds. Anyone got any ideas?    — K T. (posted on July 19, 2001)

She's calling about the cpap. I doubt that she's calling about possible wls. However, if you are interested in wls, speaking to her about your respiratory problems provides an excellent opportunity to ask for your insurer's policies and procedures regarding wls. I don't see how presenting information to your employer would helo expedite the process.

I have United HealthCare and a nurse called me before surgery to discuss my post op needs. She wanted to make sure I had help at home and that things were under control. She said if I needed anything like a hospital bed or someone to come in and check on me they would be glad to provide that. I was surprised and pleased with this offer. She also wanted to make sure that I understood the procedure I was going to be having and wondered if I had any questions. I was impressed with their service.
