ObesityHelp Clothing Exchange Instructions
“Help clothe the shrinking post-ops of the world”

« Back to the Clothing Exchange

Purpose
The purpose of this feature is to provide a resource to post-op individuals who may be on their way to losing as much as 100 or more pounds in the course of a year. That represents a lot of clothing sizes. Please do not list items you are trying to sell. If you want to sell your items, try an online auction place like Ebay. This forum is for the FREE exchange of articles of clothing. Please do not list ‘wanted’ items. Only list items that you have to offer, not what you are looking for.
How does this system work?
People with oversized clothes donate them to the system. Shrinking post ops in need of them ask donors to mail them requested articles. All recipients are thereafter obligated to re-list those same articles back on this system once they are no longer needed. Thus, when you inject your clothes into the system, you can benefit dozens of people.
How do I list my clothes?
To list your clothes, log into your private admin system. Once there, click on the new “ObesityHelp Clothing Exchange” link in the upper left of the option list. List your items SEPARATELY, ONE by ONE. Doing so might take you more time, but it saves everyone time in the long run as your actual clothing inventory changes from week to week. MAKE SURE TO REMOVE YOUR ITEMS ONCE THEY ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE!
How do I get clothes?
Simply contact the owners of items listed. Try to shop carefully in order to find people who can send multiple things to you all at once (web site tools are being developed to help facilitate this). Once you receive your clothes, remember to re-list them once they no longer fit you.
Who pays for mailing postage?
On a case-by-case basis, recipients may offer and/or pay postage. It's up to both parties. If the owner wants the recipient to send money for postage, then the owner should list that in the item description box for the item.
Should I stay local?
You could. This could certainly save on postage. However, at the same time there are also advantages to having a unified pool of thousands of items for everyone's selection, rather than having dozens of local pools with perhaps only dozens of items available. Also, it might be the case that the average value per shipment is, say, $100.00. Postage might range little, say from $3.00 to someone across town up to maybe $6.00 for someone across the country.
Where do I post what I'm looking for?
This exchange does NOT maintain any list of what people are looking for. Instead, the focus is on listing those items currently available. Please do NOT abuse our system by listing item requests. If you are looking for clothing, please simply encourage any and all post ops you know of to list all their items on this system. If you wish, you can frequently remind people on the message board to post any extra clothes they might have, stressing how much their doing so would mean to you and others like you.
