I thought I would never have surgery to lose weight. I watched my Mom not be very successful with an intestinal bypass many years ago. But here I am at 43 with 2 beautiful children and not able to enjoy life to the fullest with them. So I made the decision to have this surgery and I am committed to making this work for me and my children.

I had my first appointment with Neweigh in Houston on 4/24/02. When I walked in I couldn't believe all the people there. The office staff was wonderful and make me feel so good about my decision. I also met with the surgeon I chose for an initial consultation. I knew that this was what I wanted.

I was sent on my way with orders for some pre-op testing and they told me they would file with my insurance and I should get my testing done during that time. I had my echo on 4/29/02 since I had taken phen-fen. Approximately one week later I got a call from Neweigh saying my surgery had been approved. I couldn't believe it had been so quick. I wasn't even through with scheduling my pre-op tests.

I had my a sleep study done on 5/3/02 and lab work done on 5/6/02. The sleep study came back and said I had sleep apnea which I had no idea I had that. So I got my CPAP machine on 5/20/02. I can't believe they expect me to sleep with that thing on, but I will get used to it.

Also on 5/20/02, I was cleared for surgery. So I called Neweigh on 5/22/02 to try and schedule my surgery. The first available date is 7/15/02. I was hoping for a June date, but they told me my surgeon, Dr. Ferrari will be out of town for most of June. I just want to make sure I have this surgery this summer while my children are out of school. I am so excited to have come this far so quickly.

7/15/02 - Tomorrow is the Day! I can't believe it's here. I am feeling so many things right now. I know I am doing the right thing, but I'm still so nervous. My parents are coming in today and we are gonna stay in a motel close to the hospital since I have to be there at 4:30 in the morning. My surgery is scheduled for 7:00 am 7/16/02. I will see you all on the other side. Thanks to everyone who has posted messages to my profile. I truly appreciate the support and special thanks to my Angel Edy for all the love and encouragement.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Ferrari on 4/24/02 through NeWeigh in Houston. He had performed the surgery on my cousin so I had received alot of information about him. I had a good feeling after talking to him. He answered all my questions and was very understanding to my concerns.

I had my appointment with the surgeon on 4/24/02 through NeWeigh and they called one week later to tell me that I was approved. I was so excited because I had thought it would take at least a month. I wasn't even through getting my tests done. I got a confirmation letter on 5/2/02 from my insurance company.
