I had the surgery on September 18, 2002 at the age of 28 years old. It was a hard decision for me for several reasons. At that point in my life I had never been under the knife, had no major health problems to speak of and I was almost comfortable being obese. If it wasnt for my children and a beautiful wife, I would likely still be on the couch eating a snickers bar. But, I do have a responsibility to my family to be around for as long as I can.
Now that I have gone through with it, I am very very pleased with the outcome.
My journey began being a heavy child, athletic but big, the son of a wonderful cook !
Over the years my the weight just pilled on all the way to 412lbs at my highest. WLS seemed to be my last chance in controlling my weight.
I had my surgery (RNY Gastic Bypass) on 9-18-02 weighing in at 390 lbs on day of surgery .
Over time I have lost a significant amount of weight. Today I weigh 185 lbs ! I never dreamed of seeing the scale under 300 much less under 200 lbs.
I would advise the surgery only to those who truely understand that it is a tool for weight loss. Along with having a better understanding of eating healthy and picking the proper surgeon that understands your personal needs.
Surgery is not a cure all for everyone.
I am not looking back, nor do I regret one moment of post op.
I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Audencio Alanis, M.D.
When I first met Dr. Alanis my first impression could be summed up with one word, caring. My impression never changed throughout the surgery because he proved to be a nice, well mannered doctor who truely wants his patients to succeed. Having both surgical competence and fantastic bedside manner, Dr. Alanis is the only doctor I refer.
