Pre-op:
I first began to put on significant weight when I reached puberty. The summer before my ninth grade year in high school, one of my sisters helped/inspired me to lose weight. I entered high school a thin and trim size three. Within a year my eating habits returned and I began to gain weight again. I began to try all means of dieting. Quite accidentally, I discovered Bulemia as one of my means of "dieting". I used Bulemia as a way to maintain weight for a period of ten years. When I was 26 I sought counsel and recovery from Bulemia. I recovered (I have since been a recovered Bulemic for the last ten years) but found that with each year I grew more overweight. I have spent the last ten years trying to diet and lose weight, only to regain (and each time gaining more and more). Within this last year I have felt my body tell me in so many different ways that "it has had enough". At 36 years old I found that I was having to come to terms with the fact that my addiction to food was slowly killing me. I feel like a statistic "waiting to happen". Throughout this year there have been many ways in which God has led me to my decision to have Weight Loss Surgery.

Post-op:
I am 6 months post-op on January 30th. To date I have lost 90 pounds. I started at a size 26 and am now in a size 16. I feel wonderful! There are so many ways in which my quality of life has improved. Please feel free to visit my homepage for more information about my journey. www.angelfire.lycos.com/tx5/tinabobena2001

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Thirumalairaj Jayakumar M.D.
Dr. Jay spent a great deal of time with me on my first consult (about 1 1/2 hours) explaining the procedure, the risks and answering my questions (he was very patient). As a post-op, Dr. Jay provides me with excellent care in all my subsequent visits. I know as a new post-op I had spent many days calling him with questions and reassurance. He was always so caring and friendly. All of my questions were given respect and clear answers. His staff are representatives of the same caring attention. I am very satisfied and grateful for working with him and his staff. I heard of him through my local NeWeigh office (which works with Dr. Jay and the insurance companies to mediate and seek approval). The people at NeWeigh were ALL WONDERFUL! Dr. Jay encourages the participation in aftercare. He feels strongly that the structured support offered by NeWeigh is very effective.
