Oh, and if you scroll down to the bottom, there's a monthly weight loss chart you can look at to see my progress.

Well here's my journal:

4/04
Hi! I am a 43 year old mother of 6!!! (2 bio 2 adopted and 2 step) I have struggled my whole life to loose weight. I have tried it all. I was able to loose almost 70 pounds a two years ago, but have gained back most of it and even though my rebellious self insisted I could do this on my own, I now realize I can't. It seems to be God's will. ~R

4-28-04:
I am just starting this journey. Doing a lot of research. I hope to make lots of friends here and gain lots of info! ~R

4-29-04:
Trying to decide between lite dimensions and coastal. Any input out there? ~R

5-3-04:
Things are on a roll I tell ya. The squeeky wheel does get the grease. I'm having my sleep study done tonight and my labs tomorrow. I have an all day appt on 5/18 to see the psych, P.T. dietician etc, and finally the surgeon. I'll be using Dr. Hajduczek from Coastal. They told me if I have all my lab reports and everything else to them before that day, and the doctor gives the go ahead, then I will have surgery on 5/28. In fact she said I was already on the surgery schedule for that day! This is going so fast! I'm in a tizzy! ~R

5-4-05: Finished my sleep study and labs. I have an appointment next week for my cardiac clearance. This is all happening so fast! I'm so happy ~R

"What I'll do when I'm skinny list":
-Fit in my husbands car. (Miata... the punk)
-Fit in airplane seats
-Fit in the Angel stadium seats
-Fit in pretty much every seat ever invented!
-Play with my kids
-Go to the beach and not feel like a beached whale
-Blend in
-Throw away my handicap placard parking thingy
-Have wild and crazy times with my husband. (He says we already do, but boy will he learn different!)
-Scuba dive again
-Run a marathon
-Ski again
-Ride rollercoasters
-Live longer
-Wear spandex
-Have more energy than my teens
-Reduce asthma, palpitations, sleeping problems and improve my problems that linger as a result of a car accident (Broke my neck, skull, suffered brain trama, etc.)

I'm sure there's more, but that's it for tonight!
~R

5-14-04:
I'm getting so antsy! I've done all I can do before my preop visit next Tuesday. I've planned babysitting, grocery lists, ordered protien shakes, cleaned the house. Now I'm ready for the pre-op and to get the 28th as a CONFIRMED surgery date. I'm so nervous something will happen to cause a delay. Hey I need recommendations on protien shakes. I've ordered a bunch of samples, but would love to hear from someone who has one that's a must have!
~R

5-18-04 MY DATE'S BEEN MOVED UP!!!!!
I'm having surgery in 3 days on May 21st! I had all my pre-op appointments today. Things went well. I'm ready to get this done and put into action all I've learned.

5-20-04 One more day! AHH!!! I'm scared but excited. I'll post when I get home.

5-25-04 I'm home!
My procedure went almost TOO well. I kept waiting for something to happen, but nothing did. I'm already walking 1/2 mile twice a day. Other than the drainage tube I have no complaints. I'm quite happy at the moment. Never hungry, other than a "I'm bored and want to chew something" sensation, but I know I couldn't possible actually eat anything. I'm too full feeling! Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers! They are much appreciated!

5-28-04 ONE WEEK
Loss of 9 pounds in one week and 19 in two! Now before you pre-ops go digging out your calculators, trying to figure out if you did that then... Let me say that my weight a week before surgery was 318, and I put myself on liquids for the next few days. I wanted a nice bowel prep to minimize after effects. It worked! I had no problems afterwards with a 'full bowel'. The day of surgery I was already down 10 pounds. So this first week, I've really lost 9 pounds.
Today was my originally scheduled surgery date. I'm so glad to be one week post-op. My only problems have been with the drainage tube. And thankfully, that came out today! It was bleeding at the site, getting red and yucky looking, so I went in early and he took it out. The villagers rejoice! (family joke there).
The only other thing I've noticed is that the shakes make me gassy. Yuk! But I'm dealing with it.
I'm available to answer any questions you pre-ops!

1 month:
6-21-04
It's been one month and I'm doing really well. I exercise 4-6 days a week for at least an hour depending on my energy level. I usually get all of my water, vitamins and protein in. I have noticed that if I don't plan my day in advance, I fall short of something somewhere. It's very difficult for me to just go with the flow because then something gets left out. I have had one plateau that lasted for 4 days that drove me crazy. It broke when I concentrated on getting in all my protein and water. I've lost 30 pounds and am extremely happy with that as that is exactly what my goal was for this month. So my stats are: 365 (my absolute highest)/335 (my weight in the months before surgery)308 (day of surgery)/278/157. I am extremely glad I had this surgery and would do it again in a heartbeat! Thank you God for directing me this way.
*Tink*

7-21-04: 2 months and -50! WooHoo! I'm doing a 10K race tomorrow and can't wait to see how my time is. I am so glad I had this surgery. I'm still struggling to get in enough protein. It just takes a lot of planning! Other than that though all else is good.
*Tink

8-21-04 3 months and -70!!! I can't believe how I keep hitting my goal right on the money each month! I've been exercising like crazy this month. I'm doing a 1/2 marathon in October and have really been sticking to my training schedule. I'm actually enjoying it though. Go figure. My goal is to do the Los Angeles marathon in March. We'll see! I'm feeling really good and am loving life!

9-21-04 4 Months and -82. Yay me! WooooHooo! I haven't felt this good in years. We just moved and I had more energy than ever. Tonight my neck was hurting and my husband was rubbing it and said,"You've got a huge lump right here!" He kept massaging and finally pulled my shirt back to get a look. It was my shoulder blade! Something that's been hidden for about 25 years! I'be got bones! I'm not a squid after all! And guess what else! I'm not morbidly obes anymore... I'm just "Very Overweight"! That's it for now. I'm going to attempt to update more frequently. Let me know if there's something you'd like to know! I have a new e-mail address... runtink@charter.net

10-21-04
5 MONTHS! And I'm down 96.4 pounds. Can you stinkin believe it? Neither can I! I'm not morbidly obese or even extremely obese, I'm just plain old obese! I'm almost down to the "overweight" range. This has been such an exciting month for me. My husband and I did a "couples boot camp" Where we spent the weekend doing all sorts of things I never thought I'd do. If you want to see pictures of me doing these insane things, let me know. Then I did a half-marathon the next weekend. Now I'm starting to train for a marathon. We'll see if I can pull 26 miles off! I don't know. I'm so happy I had this surgery.

11-7-04
I've had such an awesome week. I just want to share how happy I am with how I'm doing. I fit into a size 14 comfortably! Comfortably is the key word here! I have my 6 month check up tomorrow. I'm 5 and 1/2 months out. I really want to know what my lab results are! Size 14 was my dream size. I guess now I have to change my expectations. Oh aren't I sad! NOT!

11-21-04
It's been 6 months, and to say that I am happy is a complete understatement! This has been a life changer and I am so eccstatic. I got my lab results and all is perfect. I'm so relieved because I use to be severely anemic. I have bones I never knew existed. I have energy through the roof. I can't say enough about how this has changed my world!
*Tink
335/199/157... 108 pounds in 6 months... just 42 pounds to goal!

12-21-04
7 months:
Merry Christmas everyone! I was just reviewing my list of things I want to do when I'm skinny up above here, and I'm incredibly greatful to say that I can do every one of them or have a plan to accomplish them in the next few months! I can't believe it! I have lost 122 pounds. I'll never say "gone forever" because I'm so scared that this is just a fantasy I'll wake up from. I know it is up to me if it is truly going to stay gone forever and it won't just happen on it's own. I've been working hard and know I'll have to keep working hard to keep this dream alive.
*Tink
335/186/157

12-23-04
It's my birthday today. I beat my original goal by 13 pounds. My original goal was 199 by my birthday and today I'm 185.8. Choke me with a spoon! Shut up! I'm going to Disneyland today and plan on buying myself something. I don't know what, but something I never could buy there before because it didn't fit!
I'm so happy...*sigh* I think I'll go update my picturetrail now!
*Tink (Who'se flitting away to Disneyland now!)

1/21/05 I can not believe how my life has changed in the past 8 months! I have lost 134 pounds and wear size 12 pants and medium tops. Blows me away. I was planning on being beside myself with happiness if I got down to a size 14! When I reached size 18, I told my husband I'd be happy if I never lost another pound. Well now I've tasted what thin feels like and I want it all. I want to go all the way, and I feel like I just might get there! I have no idea where I'll wind up. Every one tells me I need to stop loosing, but I know there's still fat in my thighs and hips. I would be happy to talk to anyone who wants to know more about my story! I'm doing a marathon in March, and I can't even believe it. This weekend I'm going skiing, I just got home from rollerskating with my kids after doing a 6 mile walk/run! I never in my wildest fantasies would have thought I'd be saying these things!

5-10-05
I've been a bad girls about updating! I've been having way too much fun lately I guess. Let's see... I did the Los Angeleas Marathon in March. So it took over 7 hours, but I finished! Yay me! The the very next day we got the keys to our newly constructed home and moved the day after that. Ya, I'm crazy.

I'm having my first plastic surgery done in 6 weeks. Arms and an extended tummy tuck. I'm nervous but excited. I can't believe this is actually me. I'm still getting use to my new body. I exersize like crazy. It's the only way I can do the things I want to do! I'm in a size 10. WHAT! A size 10! No way! I can't even get my head around that!

Life is so good. I would do this again in a heart beat. Please contact me if you want to talk! My BMI is now 24.6,,, I'm "normal"!

*Tink
335/162/Don't know what I'll weigh after the skin is gone, but doctor after doctor has told me there's no fat left on my body to loose, just gobs of hanging ugly skin! So 162 may be it, but I'm still hoping for that 157 after the skin is gone!

7-16-05
Ok, so I really am bad about updating! Sorry! I have been maintaining now for several months. I had some skin removed! Yay! On 6-23 I had an extended abdominoplasty and brachioplasty done in Mexico. They removed about 3 pounds of skin. I'm still a bit swollen so not all of the weight is showing as lost yet. I had my surgery done in Tijuana and boy was I scared! But this surgeon came highly recommended and I have seen his results on another WLS patient. I am incredibly happy with the results. The scars are healing so nicely and overall I feel that he did a better job than most of the procedures I've seen done here in the states, If you want more info, let me know. Anyhow, life is good! If you want to see my before and after plastic surgery pics, let me know!

National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases

A new study shows that kids who are substantially overweight throughout much of their childhood and adolescence have a higher incidence of depression than those who aren't. The research, published in the April issue of Pediatrics , studied nearly 1,000 children for a period of eight years to learn whether being obese had any links to psychological problems. Surgeon Info:
    Surgeon: Andrew Hajduczek
He came across as a quiet man, but over the past month I've discovered that he's just shy! He is absolutely great. Top notch. I woke from my surgery thinking they called it off because I had such a minor amount of pain. I've had abdominal surgery before, and so I attribute this great response to Dr. Hajduczek's surgical skills. Their staff is competent and knowledgable. I thought some of the handouts were a bit confusing and needed updating, but that's just because I'm overorganized! Their aftercare program is the best. They really do everything they can to help you succeed. Overall, I would give him a 10 out of 10. Please e-mail me with any questions! *Tink*
