I've reached my one year mark! I am down 120 pounds - BMI went from 48 to (an almost normal) 31. Life has changed so much - I am more active and able to do things - Last month I walked 30 miles in the AVON Walk for Breast Cancer. I am shrinking into smaller clother - 26/28 gone forever - no I am wearing 16 pants and sometimes as small as Medium tops! I would do this again in a heartbeat.

10/7/04
Three month check up. Down 66lbs. All is good. Iron within normal ranges, B12 off the charts (no more B12 for me - Doctor's orders!), healing well. I haven't had many problems with foods. I am still a cautious eater - I like to try things out at home before in public - just in case.

Follow up appointment with my surgeon. Down 18.4lbs. He says everything looks good. He'll see me again at 3 mo out from surgery. The nurses will see me again 6 weeks out from surgery.

I had surgery on 7/2/04. Was released on 7/4/04. Have had minimal pain - infact have not taken pain meds in 1 1/2 days. I still tire somewhat easily - I can ge out for about 2 hours then its home and napping. I am walking a little ove a mile each day - part in the morning part at night to make sure I don't get too tired. Having some difficulty getting in all my fluids and protein - if I nap I get behind or sometimes I'm just FULL! Follow up appointment with Dr. Chaing on 7/15 - we'll see then what restrictions he drops.

I haven't typed for a while because I was frustrated - found out that Humana denied me. Appealed, still denied - not covered in the policy. By that time it was too late to change insurance for the next year. When I finally changed to Blue Cross Blue Shield I was able to get the ball rolling again. Called in 12/03 to set up appointments for Jan/04 when I knew I'd have coverage. Many tests and pre-ops later I was apporoved. The only thing the insurance asked for was a thyroid test, once they got that they approved me right away. Looks like surgery will be 7/2/04 - I will know for sure on Monday!

3/15/02
I visited with my PCP today. He was very supportive and directed me to a surgeon. I called her and she doesn't do WLS. She refered me to a surgeon who does, but upon calling my health insurance co. I found out that the surgeon (Dr. Chua) isn't in my IPA. I asked the IPA who was and I only got 1 name (Dr. Chaing). I was dissapointed with the one name, but I will talk to him and see what I need to do next.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Chaing. He is friendly and he knows his stuff! He makes you feel like you are his only patient. His office staff is great as well. Sometimes busy, but calls are returned promptly and if the person you need is not available someone else helps to the best of their ability.
