I had my intial consultation with Dr. Gorospe/Bosquez's office. It was very informative and I very much appreciate all the information (pro's and con's) that was given on that day.

After 18 phone calls to BC/BS of OK I have been approved. My surgery date is scheduled for July 16, 2002 with Dr. Bosquez. I chose Dr. Bosquez because he seems like a very caring and sincere Doc. and I wanted to have the surgery at least 2 weeks before my daughter's first day of kindergarden so I could be feeling better and be able to walk her in to class with a smile and also so my daughter would have time to adjust to the major life change me and the whole family is going to be going thru. From the info I've collected so far, I feel Dr. Bosquez is as qualified as Dr. Gorospe. I'd love to have more info so if anyone has used him please tell me more about him.

I've had all three of my pre-op appointments and I'm cleared for take off! At first I didn't like the idea of going to the specialist. But since going to them I feel like I don't have to worry as much about not making it during surgery. The cario. did a stress test and said it looked good, the pulmon. sent me to do a sleep study and I havne't gotten the results back yet but in the office he said that during surgery I'd have that mask thing on and he'd be watching me like a hawk (I'd be in ICU the 1st night). The phsyc. was OK too, he just basically wanted to make sure I understood what the surgery did, the possiblities, and if I was in this for the right reasons. I was cleared from all three so I guess I'm sane, have a heart and am breathing. I have less that two weeks untill my surgery. I really feel prayers are answered so please pray that my surgery goes well.

I had my surgery on July 11th. It was scheduled for 9am but I didn't get in there until 10:30am. I'd asked ahead of time for some Versed to calm my nerves and they said sure. When the time came they wheeled me down to surgery and I slid myself onto the surgery table and don't remember anything else until I woke up in ICU and the nurses where washing my face. I kept asking for my husband and daughter and they said they'd get them as soon as they cleaned my face up. Surgery went well. After surgery in the ICU things went well too. I was soo stopped up because we discovered I had a bad sinus infection. I had to have breathing treatments during my entire stay. I got out of ICU at 10am Friday and didn't get nurses care until 7pm. At 11pm (36 hours after surgery)we found out I was in so much pain because I hadn't been getting morphine, the bag had a kink in it. I talk to another patient's spouse and he said his wife got 2 bags during their stay. When the morphine was taken off of me on Saturday I still had 90cc out of 100cc left in my orginial bag. Now let me tell you, if I can get thru like that ANYBODY can do it with morphine. I was in a lot of pain but once I got some morphine and then once I started taking the pills I was much better. And they did suppliment the morphine with tordal and another kind. I don't feel that the hospital was very helpful during my stay. They never once told me to be doing feet presses or to have the massage things on my feet or to roll side to side or to take deep breaths and cough. They never once asked if they needed to help me to the bathroom or to walk. Thank goodness for the teaching course we go to before surgery, that's how I knew to do those things. I'm really not a complainer but I feel it's important for any getting ready to have this surgery to take all the hand outs to the hospital with you so you can look back on them to know what to do. I'm so happy I had this surgery and I made it.

I had my surgery 5 days ago and I was feeling good enough to go to James Avery at the mall today to order me a Medical Alert Charm. I'm feeling good.
July 20, 2002
I've been walking alot. I've been to the grocery store Thursday and to Toys R Us Saturday and to Walmart today. These are places that have A/C and I'm all for that because I don't want to sweat and/or get any infections. Also went Thursday to my family doctor because of sinus problems and if his scales are right, I'd lost 10 pounds exactly a week after my surgery. I've been taking bottled water everywhere with me. I can pretty do anything I want now (regarding pain of the incision) except pick stuff up off the floor. I move slow but I can pretty much do anything. I have to watch really carefully not to lift heavy things. I haven't had any nasuea or vomiting. I don't know if that will start when I start solids or what. I can't wait until my two week appt on Friday.

I woke up with a rash along my incision this morning so I called and made an appointment for today. Went in with a list of questions and Dr. Bosquez was very nice and willling to answer all of them completely and not in a hurried fashion. I was apparently allergic to the steri-strips. So he told me to put Cortaid on it and take an oral antibiotic. I also weighed and have lost 21 pounds in 11 days. I am still on total liquids until Friday then I'm going to go to the pureed stuff. I've not struggled with cravings or depression until day number 10. I am not hungry but I did start thinking, boy that's my favorite. Day 11 was better I think I was just having a hard day. One last note Dr. Bosquez has been absolutely wonderful. I'm so happy I chose him.

I have been fighting with the post-op depression and hate it. I also have started not feeling as well as I had been. I think it's because of many reasons. It is so hard not being able to do for myself. I didn't think I could even shave my legs because it hurt to bend but I got it done. I am a very active person and it's been hard being limited. I don't want to get a hernia or bust open my incision so I'm going to follow the rules. I tryed semi solid food today for the first time. I took a couple of nibbles of egg and cheese. It stayed down. Yeh. We were out and about and I had stopped at Sonic for my 4 year old so I ordered me a Bacon, Egg, Cheese Toaster and threw the bread and bacon away. So after I took my nibbles I took and stuffed my mouth with the rest and chewed it all up and spit it in the bag. I know Gross. But I just had this craving of the old way I use to eat. I'm on my way to a new life style but it's going to take time to get used to it.
July 26, 2002
It's a mental challenge daily. But I'm so glad I did it. Went out to eat with family. Did well. Saw some else from WLS meeting who'd lost 286#. So that was encouraging.

It's been 4 weeks today since my surgery. I've lost 35 pounds and don't take any High Blood Pressure med's or back pain med's. I still have Sleep Apnea but have a hard time sleeping with the machine. People ask me if I'm having to buy new clothes and it's sad to say but no, I'm just starting to fit into what I've been wearing. I get to start solids today. I want grilled shrimp so bad. I still crave the atmosphere of restruants. I've been to a few since my surgery and enjoyed the time with my family. My scar is looking good. I bought some Mederma to put on it. That stuff is expensive (small tube for $20). I've started getting sick when I eat. I have tolerated cottage cheese the best and two nights ago I got sick on it. Today I got sick on egg. I've heard the vomiting doesn't start for a month or so. I had been trying so hard to see what I could and couldn't tolerate (in the soft and liquid section) and decided that I should be dieting not looking for food to eat. So I've calmed down and am eating basics. I stayed on the liquid's for 2 weeks like the doctor ordered and then on the semi-solid for 2 more weeks and I think that really helped me as a junkie (food addict). I have a small hernia. It is so hard to not lift over 5 pounds! And not vacuum or make beds. I didn't do much but I did slowly vacuum a time or two and of course made a bed or two. I'm a perfectionest. I can't wait until I can work out. I plan on starting that when my little one's school starts. Just walking and maybe some water aerbics. I go back to the doctor on the 19th. I can wait to officially weigh.
August 26, 2002
I have lost 48 pounds in 6 weeks. I am eating chicken now. I can eat a tiny bit of lettuce. I can not eat birthday cake, imagine that! My little girl's 5th birthday was last week and I tryed a piece and yuck. I am taking One a day essentials vitamins now, whole and they stay down just fine. Good Luck to all of you.
September 14, 2002
I have been stuck at a 50 pound loss for awhile now. I hope I lose some more soon. I'm really tired these days.
September 20, 2002
I have lost 56 pounds total now. I'm now taking a B-12 pill from GNC that is cherry flavored and dissolves under the tongue. I am also taking an Iron Supplement from GNC along with my One a Day Essentials. I'm very fatiqued right now so I've not started exercising. All in all everything is going good.
October 22, 2002
I am 3 months out and have lost 64 pounds total. I just did that WLS calculator and to expect to lose 80% of the weight it calculates that one should have lost 80 pounds at 3 months. Hmm?! I'm still taking the B-12 subligual and Iron and One a Days. I had 8 vials of blood taken on the 18th so I'm anxious to see the results of those. I'm able to eat a whole grilled chicken wrap from Sonic. I don't know if that's normal or not. I'm so happy with how things are working for me. I may be slower than the average at losing but I KNOW I'm losing and will CONTINUE to lose. I'm so glad I had the surgery and can't wait until I'm under 200. I only want to get to 180#. When I weighed 215 I wore a size 14 jeans so I think 180 would be a good size for me. I'm not asking for a perfect size 4. If I were to go back in time knowing what I know now, I'd still have the surgery, no doubt in my mind.
February 7, 2003
I have lost a total of 85 pounds. I take the Women's Iron complete from GNC, One a day Essentials, and a B-12 shot. I feel good. I eat normal. I can get anything just not much. Which to me is normal. I've lost only 20 pounds in the last 2 months. But I have not felt deprived at all and I'm still losing! More than I can say for any diet I've ever been on before.
August 24, 2003
I have now lost 110 pounds. I still take the Iron from GNC, B-12 shots, and daily vitamins. I feel very normal. I eat normal and am still losing. When I say normal eating I don't mean my pre-op days eating, I mean average size person eating. I don't look like a pig at the buffets anymore. My plate isn't overflowing. I don't feel deprived ever! I'm so happy that I made this decision to change my life for good this time. I'm also lucky that I chose such a wonderful surgeon like Dr. Matt Bosquez (918)254-7546.

Surgeon Info:
Surgeon: Matt Bosquez, M.D.
My first impression of Dr. Bosquez was that he was a very caring and professional doctor. That impression hasn't changed. He came to my room after surgery EVERY day and requires us to attend one support meeting before surgery and one after. He is rated #1 for aftercare and bedside manners. He has one of the lowest rates of complications, and I feel this is because he is a perfectionist. My husband had surgery 6 months after me and it was on Valentine's day (and Valentine's Day is also Dr.B and Joy's anniversary) and Dr. B. came by that evening, the next morning-after he walked with the walking group at Woodland Hills Mall, which is an every Sat. morning thing. He came by twice on a couple of days. It shows that this man puts his heart into his work. I would let this doctor work on any family member of mine because he is the best.
